Contrasting Mindsets That Will Set You Apart

To accomplish a goal or to change a behavior takes time. When you figure out what it is that you truly desire then you can take the necessary steps to make it happen.

What happens though if it is hard, you can’t seem to keep it up, or any obstacles arise? This is when you encounter two approaches in mindset. All-or-nothing VS. Consistency Compounds. These are maybe concepts you have heard, considered before, or even tried to implement on their own. Each one serves a great purpose in challenging your mind and pushing yourself to the next level. In the context of forming a habit and achieving a goal, we have to look at them a bit more carefully.

All-or-nothing: this is when you are a perfectionist, overachiever and want to put your best self toward it. These are all such great qualities. However if they get in the way of you actually taking steps no matter how big or small towards that goal, then it becomes a problem.

Consistency Compounds: this is where the concept shifts from sometimes to all the time. No matter how small or big, easy or hard, little or great strength you have, lots of time or little time, you do it anyway knowing that progress isn’t linear but progressive. The act of simply showing up and doing what you can day after day are steps regardless. Steps that add up and get you toward your goals. This compound effect is what you rely on to keep going and be proactive.

Think of it this way:

All-or-nothing = Reactivity

Consistency compounds = Productivity

Not all days are perfect and you will make mistakes, but set your mind up for success. The choice is yours.
