Is Pain Really Real??
“100% of the time pain is a construct of the brain”- Lorimer Moseley
When working at high intensities we experience pain. Well not always, but to some level it can be hard and requires a level of struggle.
This pain that we experience is a side effect of our body undergoing stress. Stress to promote growth. This stress on the body whether it be physical, mental, or emotional somehow always leads to growth over time. This is our body’s design. To take something hard, adapt to it and then grow even stronger.
Now take this in the context of understanding that pain is a construct of the brain 100% of the time.
What does that mean to you? It may mean that anything we feel is all made up in our head, it isn’t all that we make it out to be, or that our body is controlled by our brain. I and science agree this is all accurate to some extent.
The pain we feel is a result of a signal put out by the brain to act as a protective mechanism. It is our bodies way of protecting us, not harming us. When we experience pain it is always a response, not just a feeling. Know that it is a valid feeling however, regardless of how small or large the response is. Bring awareness, but don’t let it control you.
Maybe this will get you thinking about how you can manage pain in a different way considering the mind is a powerful tool.
